What are the differences between Vanilla ATBBS and regular ATBBS?

(Edited 23 minutes later.)

grey double-posted this 9.6 years ago, 23 minutes later, 1 week after the original post#34

Vanilla is just Jan's fancy name for the original, basic version. It has no extra features, but it works without incident. Some addons are available for it, but you have to manually add the code. (The only fully functional addon that I know of is the bulletins)
'Regular', as far as I know, refers to the same thing as vanilla. To my knowledge, only 2 versions of ATBBS have been released publicly: the original basic code and the LiteralKa fork. Currently, dev.bbs and dev.beta are the only sites not running some form of ATBBS 1.0.
We currently have 2 people working on tripcode mods, but they're not done yet.
I do have working ads on this version, but I haven't singled out the code you'd need to insert into the /includes files.

Also, what site do you represent? Is this grey?

Yeah that was me.

Is there a working install of internal ads? (+Install instructions)

(Edited 1 minute later.)

Whoreos (OP) replied with this 9.5 years ago, 1 hour later, 3 weeks after the original post#67

I'm working on that. That upgrade would also include the VIP mod (registered namefagging).

grey replied with this 9.5 years ago, 3 hours later, 3 weeks after the original post#69

You mean the Internal ADs addon would include namefagging?

Whoreos (OP) replied with this 9.5 years ago, 2 hours later, 3 weeks after the original post#72

@previous
both would require a complicated addition to topic.php, so including the two together would be simpler.

grey replied with this 9.5 years ago, 18 hours later, 3 weeks after the original post#74

Ah I see.
But what exactly do you mean by registered namefagging? Is'nt that just tripfagging?

Whoreos (OP) replied with this 9.5 years ago, 15 hours later, 3 weeks after the original post#75

@previous
Basically, yes. The difference is, with the VIP system, the name is site-wide (no optional anonymous posting), and it's manually set by the admin in config.php, so it's dynamic,

grey replied with this 9.5 years ago, 2 hours later, 3 weeks after the original post#76

That sorta defeats the purpose of the AT part of ATBBS. If someone wants to tripfag its fine but not giving them the option to post anon, Thats not right.

Whoreos (OP) replied with this 9.5 years ago, 3 hours later, 3 weeks after the original post#77

@previous
Sort of, but most users right now don't seem to care much, it's not really any different than a regular registration forum, except you don't have to login every time on the same computer.

It also discourages trolls and shitposting because you'll tarnish your reputation. It's more work than most people can be bothered with to back up their ID and logout just to make a troll post or two that might get removed and then log back in again.

And for a site like this, it's helpful to know who people are from thread to thread by name, so we can get in touch with each other. Mods and Admins can see your post history to figure out who you are, but other users can't.

I have no problem with anonymity, but from my experience, when you have a specialized community, people tend to stick around more, and like to be known by the other users.

In the future, I'd like to add a checkbox for anonymous posting, as well as an Anon on/off switch for Admins.
The on/off would allow the admin to disallow the anonymous option during floods, as well as blocking posts from non-VIP users. Of course, users who frequent but wish to remain Anonymous (and be exempted from the flood measure) can simply apply for the name "Anonymous" as there's no rule preventing multiple IDs from using the same name. This would additionally provide true anonymity because it would override the letter identifier, and other users wouldn't know how many registered anons there are.

Sorry, edited my post hard. Are the new bulletin scripts in the 1.6b package? The add-on is the same as I got right now (3rd of April). The vip add-on would also be nice to put in.

(Edited 10 minutes later.)

Whoreos (OP) replied with this 9.5 years ago, 8 minutes later, 3 weeks after the original post#79

@previous
Yes, the updated bulletins retain the same tables. None of my upgrades will change anything in the tables, only add new ones.
I haven't got the new bulletins up yet. Should be there in about 15 minutes or so. VIP will probably take longer.
As for the PM system, if you go to /rep v0.6 has my partial guess at the sql tables included, but I haven't tested it yet.

I will update my version soon, also need to search/replace the unix time string and replace it with server time to fix those delays and time errors... And I want to have a go at trying to figure out the pm system, that is unless you're already advancing with that one.

My wishes:

- pm the sysop, and ability for users to receive pm's back, and pm's from mods, user 2 user pm's not needed i think.
- thread locking.
- thread sticking.
- thread merging.
- more spam & ban control.
- working folks, events and user notepad/memo thingy.
- word filters (could use the stuff used for mark-up, adjust it into a new routine or something (im a non coder)).
- maybe tripcodes and/or the vip add-on.

grey replied with this 9.5 years ago, 5 hours later, 3 weeks after the original post#82

I see what your saying but I like the tripcode system better. Its less work for everybody involved with the bbs/chan and easier for the users.

Whoreos (OP) replied with this 9.5 years ago, 2 hours later, 3 weeks after the original post#83

@previous
Of course. The VIP system isn't a replacement for traditional tripcodes and namefagging, it's just an alternative with some other possible uses in the future.

@80
wordfilters would be pretty easy, you'd pretty much just add onto the markup functions.

Well, yeah. Mine uses the LK fork as the base software. But it was buggy so I've obviously had to make some fixes.
